Cycling Thoughts - Late Riding Season '04

Bill Gatz - from the Editor

If you've been out riding your bike, you've undoubtedly noticed the changes outdoors. The weather is getting cooler, there is less daylight in the evening, the trails are more and more covered with leaves

For many people, the end of the riding season is approaching. That's not an excuse for you not to ride your bike any more this year.

There's plenty of time yet to ride. In Jeff Dayss' column this month, among other things, Jeff talks about riding late in the season. Check out Jeff's column. Jeff makes a reference to frozen water bottles so you know he's not afraid of a little cold weather. You don't have to be as hardcore as Jeff, but you can probably ride longer into Fall and Winter than you may think.

One problem I experience this time of year is that all those outside jobs that I put off this past Spring and Summer still should be done. With the decreased daylight, it's difficult to get both a bike ride and some chores before it gets dark.

I guess that's just one of life's challenges. As I've talked about in this space previously, riding is fun. Don't feel guilty when you can't get on your bike, but enjoy the time you are able to spend on the bike.
